Two Vietnamese and Indonesian high school students have just won an international innovation contest which concluded in London early this month.

Pham Huong Thao, the Vietnamese student, and Kathleen Valencia Hartono were awarded the high-school version of the Hult Prize, which Hult International Business School and the Clinton Global Initiative created for MBA students three years ago.

Candidates who are excellent students at their schools from around the globe put forward many innovative solutions to solving water crises at the competition.

The two winners, enrolled at EF International Academy Oxford, introduced an energy-saving water purification method that simply requires large containers, faucets, and chemicals.

This technique costs a mere US$10 to $15 and can purify 800 to 2,400 liters of water a day.

Thao and her schoolmate will attend an awards ceremony in New York City in September and have a chance to meet former U.S. President Bill Clinton and other international leaders.

Last year Time Magazine selected the Hult Prize as one of the top five ideas to change the world.
