Boeing funds school construction in Thai Nguyen

Update 07/12/2012 - 09:43:22 AM (GMT+7)

Children in My Yen Commune, Thai Nguyen Province, have 10 new classrooms as a result of a project jointly funded by local authorities and the Boeing Company.

The project also received in-kind contribution from the alumni network who studied in My Yen in the 60s.

The USD-250,000 school project was officially opened today (December 6), exemplifying the public-private partnership between Dai Tu District People’s Committee, the Boeing Company and Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation.

Boeing representative, Kevin Heise, said these new school buildings create a richer environment for teachers and children at school and will improve the quality of teaching and learning.

“My Yen Primary School was established in 1989 with eight temporary classrooms. The 10 new classrooms will help the 27 teachers and 360 students enormously. We now have enough rooms for study, library, music, drawing etc. The new school meets the national standards for primary schools, set by the Ministry of Education and Training.” My Yen School Head Master Mr Do Quang Hoc said.

My Yen is located in a mountainous area, in Dai Tu District, Thai Nguyen Province. There are 6,074 people in the commune, including five ethnic groups Dzao, Tay, Nung, Thai, and Kinh. There are 1,443 households in the commune, of which 23% of the households are categorised as living below the poverty line.
