Vietnam, Canada foster education cooperation

Update 30/11/2015 - 09:16:22 AM (GMT+7)

A workshop was held on November 24 in Niagara Fall, Ontario, Canada to foster the cooperation in education between Vietnam and Canada.

The event was organised by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) as part of its 49 th annual conference, seeing the participation of crowds of local, international and Vietnamese educators.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada To Anh Dung highlighted the potential for growing education cooperation between the two nations.

There are roughly 5,000 Vietnamese students pursuing their studies in Canada, a sevenfold from some four years ago, according to Dung.

The Embassy of Vietnam in Canada is willing to serve as a bridge to connect the two sides’ educational institutions, he reiterated.

He also called for the host Government to facilitate the visa issue for Vietnamese students while promoting the Canadian education system in Vietnam.

The Ambassador expressed his hope that education will become one of the key cooperation sectors between the two nations.

The same day, CBIE and the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges (AVUC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, the first of its kind to boost their partnership, promote student and curriculum exchanges and certificate recognition, and improve foreign language skills for Vietnamese students.

Meanwhile, Dao Thi Lien Huong from AVUC said the two agencies are discussing the projects on tertiary education reform in Vietnam.

The signing of a cooperation agreement between CBIE and the Canada International School in Ho Chi Minh City was scheduled for November 25.
