PrintOver 20,000 university exam candidates get score under 1
Update 30/07/2015 - 09:15:21 AM (GMT+7)Nearly 20,500 university exam candidates, out of 720,000 in total, have scored under 1 for one subject, which would hinder them from entering university, the Ministry of Education and Training has reported.
Of this figure, Mathematics has seen the highest number of exam takers scoring below 1, with nearly 18,000 candidates, while more than 2,600 candidates have scored zero.
History ranks second, with 1,200 below-one scores. However, the number of candidates scoring 9 in History is much higher than expected, with 2,000 candidates.
In foreign languages, Literature and Geography, the numbers are approximately 530, 492 and 375, respectively.
Biology, Physics and Chemistry have the least number of scores under 1.
The high school graduation rate in 2015 reached 93 per cent, showing a marked decrease compared with the last few years. The rate dropped by 7 and 6 per cent compared to 2014 and 2013, respectively.
More than 68,700 candidates out of a total of 816,000 have failed the high school graduation exam.
Candidates will apply for admission to universities and colleges from August 1.
In 2014, the Ministry of Education and Training decided to combine the national high school exam and the university entrance exam; therefore, from 2015 onwards, students in Viet Nam will only sit for one national exam, which took place earlier this month from July 1 to 4.
Exam results will be considered for both high school graduation and university admissions.
