PrintRetired teacher 'escapes' hospital to continue holding his classes
Update 31/03/2015 - 08:34:45 AM (GMT+7)A lecturer from Hanoi University of Technology has won a huge following on social media because he keeps "escaping" hospital so he can continue to teach classes despite his poor health.
Bui Quy Luc, 64, retired four years ago after teaching for 40 years in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, but because of his expertise, the school asked him to continue teaching.
When Luc had a stroke and was admitted to hospital, he did not want to drop the course at a crucial stage in his students' studies, so he just kept on teaching. He has a pacemaker, but still manages to climb the stairs to his fifth-floor classroom.
"I 'escaped' from hospital," Luc said. "Wearing patient clothes to class is not appropriate, but the doctors would not let me get past them if they saw I had changed my clothes."

Luc said other lecturers have helped cover his class sessions but with the final examination approaching, students had questions only he could help them with.
Bui Xuan Chien, a student at Hanoi University of Technology, said, "I've never seen any teacher like him. He wore patients clothes and hospital sandals."
After pictures of him teaching in pajamas were posted on a forum of Hanoi University of Technology, they received 6,000 likes and comments. The photos were then shared on Facebook and other social networks and received thousands more likes and comments.
