Vietnam favours chemistry talents: PM Dung

Vietnam always favours the development of science – technology talents, including those in the chemical science, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the closing ceremony of the 46th annual International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Hanoi on July 28.

The event opened in Hanoi on July 21 with 291 high school students from 77 countries and territories worldwide taking part. 

PM Dung said this was Vietnam’s honour to host the IChO for the first time – an opportunity to discover chemistry talents and promote the advancement of this science.

He congratulated the students’ achievements at the Olympiad, where they lived in the atmosphere of international friendship and solidarity.

The Government leader expressed his belief that in the future capacity of leading scientists, talented leaders and managers, they will make great contributions to their countries’ prosperity and the global development cooperation.

He also took this chance to thank the Steering Committee of the IChO, the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, universities, and other relevant sides for their effort in organising the event.

At the closing ceremony, organisers presented 28 golds, 63 silvers and 92 bronzes and 10 consolidation prizes.

All Vietnamese students won medals. Pham Ngan Giang and Pham Mai Phuong from the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted won golds. 

Meanwhile, Doan Quoc Hoai Nam from the Quoc hoc – Hue High School for the Gifted and Do Viet Hung from the Tran Phu High School for the Gifted in Hai Phong city secured the second prize.-
