Canada launches English contest for Vietnamese school students

Update 30/08/2013 - 08:53:53 AM (GMT+7)

The Canadian diplomatic mission in Vietnam launched Monday an educational competition for Vietnamese high school students as part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Vietnam.

The “Explore Canada from A to Z” competition runs from August 27 to November 30 and is open to all students who want to learn about, explore, and experience Canada, the Canadian embassy and consulate general said in a press release issued the same day.

It includes an online quiz about Canada, an English or French writing round, and the English or French speaking final interview.

The first-prize winners will be sponsored to study English or French and Canadian culture for two weeks in Canada.

Those who win the second and third prizes will be presented with Blackberry smartphones, while twelve consolation prize winners will each receive a student kit.

Vietnam and Canada established diplomatic relations in 1973, with the latter opening an embassy in Hanoi in 1994 and a consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City three years later.
