Two universities considered for applying USD5,000.00 tuition fees

Two high-quality universities: The University of Science and Technology of Hanoi and Vietnam-Germany University, may be permitted to charge tuition fees of USD5,000 per year.

On August 17, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan worked with representatives from the ministries of Education and Training, Finance, Planning and Investment, Sciences and Technology and Foreign Affairs and the Government Office for the financial mechanisms of these universities.

The deputy PM said, with the big investments of Vietnamese, German and French governments and many attractive departments as well as a contingent of qualified foreign lecturers, the two universities would be considered for collecting the tuition fee of USD5,000.00 per year.

Vietnam-Germany University was set up based on the co-operation between the Vietnamese and German governments with the participation of Hessen State authorities. The university has total investment capital of VND3.72 trillion (USD177.14 million), with VND3.34 trillion coming from foreign loans and the rest from Vietnam’s reciprocal capital.

The university launched its first course in September 2009 and  has trained 375 students to date.

University of Science and Technology of Hanoi  was established in December 2009 under the Vietnamese-French government co-operation agreement. The university, located at Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, has a total investment of USD210 million, including USD190 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It opened its first training course in the 2010-2011 school year.
