PrintVietnam to teach anti-corruption courses in high school
Update 20/06/2013 - 07:58:22 AM (GMT+7)Vietnam will start teaching corruption prevention to high school students in the next school year, according to the government’s portal.
The nation will make the battle against corruption part of the high school curriculum in the 2013-14 academic year, starting in September, after it was piloted for three years in accordance with a government decision issued in late 2009.
The State Inspectorate has been assigned to provide instructions for teachers regarding the teaching of the subject, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said in a directive.
A section of Inspectorate’s website will feature anti-corruption articles that provide information, advice, and case studies for readers’ reference.
The directive says that the implementation of this plan will be supervised by ministries, government agencies, and people’s committees at local levels.
Corruption is on the rise in Vietnam, the Inspectorate said, adding that state bodies unearthed 49 corruption cases last year that caused a loss of VND132.7 billion (US$6.3 million).
The official Vietnam News Agency quoted deputy inspector-general Tran Duc Luong as saying that the scheme, with the support of other strong measures, will help curb the corruption problem, which the Inspectorate complained has turned complicated and unpredictable in recent years.
