All five members of the Vietnamese team won medals, including one gold, one silver, and three bronzes, at the 2013 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad, held by Singapore earlier this month.

The gold medalist is Vu Dinh Quang Dat, who is enrolled in a specialized high school under the Hanoi University of Science.

Nguyen Phan Quang Minh, from the northern province of Hai Duong, bagged the silver while two students from Hanoi and another from the central province of Nghe An were awarded the remaining medals.

Vietnam was among five out of 21 participating nations to have struck gold at the competition. It ranked fourth in the contest, which was attended by 500 candidates from across the Asia Pacific region.

The Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad is a competition for delegations within the South Asian/Western Pacific region. The contest is held online, with students competing at contest sites within their own country or area.

Vietnam also grabbed two gold medals at the 14th Asian Physics Olympiad (AphO) that concluded May 13 in Indonesia.

Bui Quang Tu, enrolled at Hanoi – Amsterdam High School located in the Vietnamese capital, and Ngo Phi Long, from Son La Specialized High School, situated in the northern province of Son La, are the two gold medalists. Long bagged a silver in last year’s edition.

The Southeast Asian nation also secured two silver medals and a bronze this year, when test questions were considered the most challenging in history.

The medalists came from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and the central province of Thanh Hoa.

Students from twenty countries attended the 2013 AphO that ran from May 5 in Bogor, West Java.

India hosted the 13th edition, where Vietnam was awarded one gold, five silvers, and two bronzes.
